KINGSTON, ONT. — Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) confirmed late last week the LaSalle Causeway is now fully open for marine navigation.

PSPC has been working closely with Priestly Demolition Inc., which was awarded a $1.7 million contract to demolish the Bascule Bridge. The company has engaged specialized teams that have been working 12-hour shifts daily to expedite the Bascule Bridge demolition.

As a result, the demolition and removal of the bridge structure has been progressing ahead of schedule, PSPC reports.

“PSPC continues to develop a plan in partnership with the City of Kingston to reinstate access for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians using a temporary bridge solution,” a release reads. “At the same time, we have also started preliminary work regarding a permanent replacement bridge.”

�ճ����LaSalle Causeway in Kingston has been fully closed since early April. An incident occurred March 30 where an element of the bridge was compromised during construction. No one was injured or harmed in the incident, but the impact has been felt by causeway users. PSPC did not provide a firm timeline for vehicle, pedestrian and cycling use.
