TORONTO – There were some tense moments outside a downtown Toronto hotel this afternoon as two workers got stuck after some of the cables snapped on the swing stage they were working on. 

The incident took place just before 1 p.m. at the St. Regis Hotel, located 325 Bay St., near Bay and Adelaide streets in the city.

“We got a call for a high angle rescue at this location. Initial reports were that there were workers on a swing stage around the 55th floor having some issues,” Toronto Fire Services Cap. Dan Vieira told the Daily Commercial News. “Our crews got there, went to the roof level to assess the situation. It looked like there were some cables that had snapped to the swing stage.”

Fire crews were able to lower the workers to safety in 20 minutes.

“Our crews were able to rescue the two individuals, lower them to safety and there were no injuries that we were advised of,” said Vieira. “They were transferred to the care of EMS and our crews notified the MOL (Ministry of Labour).”
