WINDSOR, ONT. — Over the last month paving of the Gordie Howe International Bridge deck has been taking place.

According to a post on X on the bridge’s official account, the overlay is composed of a latex modified concrete which is 50 millimetres thick.

An update on construction activities on the project’s website states the Canadian and U.S. bridge towers have reached their full height of 220 metres; the two sides of the bridge deck are now connected over the Detroit River; all stay cables have been installed and post tensioning of the stay cables is currently underway; approach and back span activities are ongoing; and bridge deck activities include grouting and concrete work this month.

Construction activities remain ongoing for interior and exterior components of the buildings and structures for both the Canadian and U.S. Ports of Entry.

The $6.4 billion project is being delivered through a public-private partnership.

Bridging North America is the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority’s private-sector partner and is responsible to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Canadian and U.S. Ports of Entry and the bridge, and to design, build and finance the Michigan Interchange.

Measuring 853 metres, it is the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America and 10th longest in the world. It is the first new crossing to connect Ontario and Michigan in more than 60 years.
