Forestry audit finds Interfor non-compliant with bridge and road regulations

Forestry audit finds Interfor non-compliant with bridge and road regulations

VICTORIA — Interfor Corporation’s Tree Farm Licence (TFL) 18 has been found to be non-compliant with bridge and road regulations after an audit was completed.

In a news release, the Government of British Columbia states Interfor is generally compliant with the Forest and Range Practices Act and Wildfire Act except pertaining to bridge maintenance, road construction and road maintenance.

According to the release, Interfor removed material from a riparian management area to use in road resurfacing despite access to other material sources.

The audit found two culverts with inadequate drainage, which had been previously identified by Interfor had not been repaired. This led the road surface to scour and sediment to be deposited in a neighbouring fishing stream.

One bridge inspected had guardrails in need of repair. Interfor has since performed the necessary repairs.

TFL 18 covers roughly 75,000 hectares from Taweel Provincial Park to Mahood Lake and Wells Gray Provincial Park.
