VANCOUVER \u2014 Designs have been approved for the first phase of East Park<\/a>, a new waterfront destination park on False Creek in Vancouver\u2019s Olympic Village.<\/p>\n According to a release, the concept for the 1.2-hectare park is shaped by the\u00a0Guiding Principles\u00a0<\/a>for the design of parks in Northeast False Creek and by what was heard from local First Nations and community members during two rounds of engagement, held in fall 2022 and spring 2024.<\/p>\n The park\u2019s concept plan features:<\/p>\n The plan also includes opportunities for cultural recognition, education and visual representation, including Indigenous artwork to support inter-generational knowledge transfer, and h\u0259n\u0313q\u0313\u0259min\u0313\u0259m\u0313 and \u00a0S\u1e35wx\u0331w\u00fa7mesh sn\u00edchim languages woven throughout the area through wayfinding, signs and place naming. The park will serve the more than 12,000 residents living within a 10-minute walk of the site and 34,000 residents living within a kilometre. \n
\nConstruction of phase one is scheduled to begin on the south side of the project site in late 2026 and complete in late 2028. An official park name will be identified and announced through a separate naming process.
\nPhase two, which includes the creation of a habitat at the shoreline, will commence following the completion of ongoing engineering studies for the deck and foreshore area.
\nCity of Vancouver Engineering Services also plan to upgrade the Ontario Greenway located along the west side of the park.<\/p>\n
