On this episode of the Five Pods of Xmas, news editor Lindsey Cole looks at some of the most important stories of 2023 and predicts what lies ahead for the industry in the coming year.
Lindsey pointed to the housing crisis in Ontario as a major story, as well as the Greenbelt scandal as Doug Ford’s government backpedaled on development of a large amount of publicly-owned land. She also pointed to a cumbersome approvals process in many municipalities paired with an ongoing labour crisis as an ongoing story throughout 2024.
She also said she’ll be watching large Toronto transit projects as well as the controversy surrounding the revamp of Ontario Place, and said in the west Site C is almost finished and Coastal Link is wrapping up. What happens when the labour on those projects is free to work elsewhere?
