This week on the Construction Record Podcast, national editor Vince Versace and daily editor Lindsey Cole crack open the leather-bound archives of the Daily Commercial News and the Journal of Commerce for a segment called “From The Vault” that takes a look at construction stories from years gone by, in this case January 11, 1983.
While the industry has changed in the last 35 years, many of the same issues that held true then such as labour shortages, prompt payment and regulations are being dealt with today.
Journal of Commerce digital media editor Warren Frey also has an audio documentary from the recently held ceremony held at the Bentall IV memorial in downtown Vancouver.
In 1981, four men fell to their death when a fly form detached from the then under construction Bentall IV tower. British Columbia’s labour community, business leaders, government representatives, construction workers and family and friends of the victims annually reflect on the tragedy and also look ahead to improving safety culture in the industry and beyond.
