Innovation Saskatchewan puts $1.5 million towards Energy Innovation Hub

REGINA – Innovation Saskatchewan is providing $1.5 million in funding to the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) to create an Energy Innovation Hub (EIH) at its headquarters in Regina.

The EIH will allow PTRC to advance current research in areas such as carbon capture utilization and storage, enhanced oil recovery and geothermal energy, a provincial government release said, and will expand research into emerging areas such as methane reduction, clean hydrogen and compressed air energy storage.

“PTRC’s goals with the EIH reflect our belief that the future of energy for the province, and for Canada, must include a diverse sustainable energy mix. The EIH will support new and existing research and development in energy sources, focusing on collaboration with industry and researchers,” PTRC CEO Ran Narayanasamy stated.

The EIH will be located at Innovation Place Regina, PTRC’s headquarters, which is located near the University of Regina.

“PTRC has long had a collaborative relationship with the university and the facility will provide advanced training opportunities, helping develop the next generation of talent in energy research and further growing, attracting and retaining top talent in the province,” the release said.
