JASPER, ALTA. – The Government of Alberta has approved up to $149 million in disaster recovery funding for the Municipality of Jasper, Alta. for costs related to both wildfire response and for the longer process of recovery and rebuilding.
This funding provides financial assistance for uninsurable losses or damages resulting from a disaster, with eligible expenses including structural protection costs and infrastructure damage as a result of the wildfire response as well as volunteer firefighter wages, local authority firefighter and municipal staff overtime costs, mutual aid costs for reception centre accommodations, food and transportation.
Funding through the program is not intended to replace appropriate fire insurance coverage. Disaster Recovery Program financial assistance for wildfires is not available to homeowners, residential tenants, small business owners, landlords, agricultural operations, condominium associations and not-for-profit organizations, the release said.

Our community has shown incredible strength and resilience, and with this support, we can help ensure a bright future for Jasper and its residents.,” Municipality of Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland said in a statement.
