The implication that adding another labour union into the mix will increase competition and productivity in public construction and maintenance projects is equally not credible.
CLAC, and their advocacy arm Cardus, could have presented a credible argument that further research is required to identify and resolve economic drivers to public construction and maintenance projects. As Stephen Bauld has regularly presented under the title “Procurement Perspectives” in the Daily Commercial News, the procurement and delivery of construction projects is complex. Instead, CLAC’s position has been that long-standing collective agreements are the sole economic driver to public construction and maintenance projects. Simply not credible.
